Melbourne, August 31st, 2017 – The FTTH Council Asia-Pacific has successfully celebrated the continuing development of fiber to the home technologies by organizing a Smart Cities Workshop in Melbourne, bringing together industry experts on 31st of August at Radisson at Flagstaff Garden Hotel. Speakers from across the fiber optics and smart cities industry came together to discuss some of the hottest topics in the field including Deep fiber, digital standards, digital democracy, ultra fast fiber, 5g backhauling, Network Monetization etc. Around 55 industry experts from Australia, New Zealand, China, Singapore and other parts of APAC took part at the event.

Raadj Matai, Director, FTTH Council Asia-Pacific delivered the welcome speech highlighting the FTTH developments across Asia-Pacific region.

Jamie Cauchi from Victoria Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Trasport and Resources had the opening address.

Brook Dixon, Vice President of Australian Smart City Community delivered his keynote speech afterwards.

Later, Jon Mills, Associate Director of URBIS delivered his speech on “Smart City Planning & Infrastructure”

Richard Jeffares, Chief Operating Officer of Ultrafast Fibre Limited spoke on “What are the essential building blocks for a Smart City Transformation?”

Dr. Thas A Nirmalathas, Professor at Melbourne University delivered a very interesting presentation on “Towards a Living Lab for a Smart City”

Wes Oxlee, Director – Business Development at CommScope and also the Secretary of the FTTH Council Asia-Pacific presented on “Network Convergence for Smart Cities”

 

 

Steve Foster, Chair – Smart Cities Committee of FTTH Council APAC shared the “Smart Cities FTTH Council AP definition and plans” with the distinguished guests

Franz Obermoser, Telecom Project Engineer of Wood & Grieve Engineer delivered his speech on “Smart Building Technology for Smart Cities”
Also, a very interesting panel discussion took place.

 

 

Daryl May, Head of Network Planning at Chorus New Zealand shared their valuable experiences for “Building Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) for Smart Communities”
